2021-2022 SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEWS & AUDITIONS

DRAMA & THEATRE

AUDITIONS & INTERVIEW GUIDELINES

Thank you for your interest in Drama & Theatre at Norfolk State University!  We are a student centered institution and an intense training program.  We do NOT require or expect all students to arrive with exceptional skill set -- only exceptional passion and drive -- and those students are who we seek to place on scholarship.

Priority consideration for Drama & Theatre Scholarship consideration is Thursday, April 15, 2021.  Full consideration requires current admission to Norfolk State University and completion of your FAFSA Application with NSU listed as a university to receive your information. Any interviews or auditions conducted or received after the priority deadline will be considered based on availability.  Please review the criteria for scholarship interviews and auditions below.

Designers, Technicians & Managers: should schedule a Resume & Portfolio Review to be conducted in person or via Zoom to discuss your experience and/or specific area(s) of interest.

Performers: should schedule an interview and prepare two 60-second contrasting monologues. Contrasting monologues should be a combination of any two of the following performance styles:

  • Comedic Classical (Shakespeare or Greek)

  • Dramatic Classical (Shakespeare or Greek)

  • Comedic Contemporary

  • Dramatic Contemporary

If you can sing, you should also perform two contrasting 60-second songs from any two genres of music.

If you can dance, you should also prepare a 60-second dance routine for each genre of dance they are skilled in.

Auditions and interviews can be scheduled through the Drama & Theatre Office at (757) 823-0040 or via email at drama@nsu.edu.  You do not have to audition or interview in person.  You may audition via Zoom or video submission by sending a link (not a file) via YouTube or Dropbox for consideration.  Please contact the Drama & Theatre Office if you have any questions or need any clarification on requirements.
